Hamamelis Hamamelis Virginiana

Geographical area
Grows wild in the eastern part of North America, mainly in humid woody areas, or is cultivated as a decorative shrub (New Brunswick, from Quebec to Minnesota, down south to Florida, Louisiana and Texas); although it is imported from North America, Hamamelis is also grown in Europe, particularly in France (Ardèche region).
Pharmaceutical properties
Bark and leaves: Astringent, anti-inflammatory and local hemostatic properties.
Useful facts
This "Witch Hazel", with its bleak vernacular name, was brought to us from across the Atlantic to compete with our native hazelnut.
